Logan's First Day at Montessori Academy

Logan started Montessori Academy today. His first day was supposed to be yesterday but he was getting over a cold, I am sick and his grandparents came to visit. He will only stay through lunch today since he has been sick and I want his first day to be a success! We are really excited for him to be in the toddler program at Montessori Academy for several reasons: his 2 teachers are licensed teachers and have masters degrees as well as his after care teacher, it is only a few miles from our house, all wooden toys/work tasks, beautiful and clean campus, and it is the only accredited Montessori school in Nashville. As a behaviorist I have what you might call a difference of opinion in regards to some of their methodology of teaching and dealing with behavior, but I do love that they promote independence and learning from peers. He interviewed last week which was hilarious! He passed the toddler interview by not throwing work tasks, not pulling items off the shelf and because he was not rough with other children. Brian and I attended a toddler parent meeting later in the week and he got to hang out with one of the teachers and his class for an hour. As we walked up to the school he appeared to remember it by flapping his arms and squealing. He was very upset when he didn't get to stay the whole day. His grandparents are in town so his Grandpa helped me take him to his first school day. His Grandpa is his 3rd favorite person in the world. If Grandpa is around he usually prefers to be with him than me and Brian! I thought he might not like Grandpa leaving but he did great! We said goodbye and he looked up and then went back to exploring. I can't wait to hear about his day! I am so proud of him for being so independent! Here are the few pictures I could capture of my busy, little man:

There is a platform of stairs leading up to the sink. This is Logan's idea of paradise! In this picture he is playing with the water cooler where he is to fill his own open top cup if he wants anything to drink. I hope they don't mind cleaning up several gallons of water today :)

The class has a pet fish and a hamster (which is kept on the floor). I hope they both survive Logan's first day. He loves animals but tends to get a little rough from being so excited. Right after I took this photo he was pretty close to getting his hand in the water to catch the fish!
